Gestational Diabetes in Second Pregnancy Doubles Subsequent Diabetes Risk
10 May 2024 • Women who experienced gestational diabetes solely in their second pregnancy faced a 76% higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with gestational diabetes only in their first pregnancy, as per recent findings from a large study involving 431,980 women.
Moreover, the risk escalated substantially for women with gestational diabetes in both pregnancies.
These findings suggest that considering gestational diabetes history in each pregnancy results in more accurate diabetes risk estimation than a simple yes/no dichotomy of past gestational diabetes occurrence.
