Caffeine Intake Lowers Mortality Risk in People with Diabetes and Prediabetes
27 Jul 2024 • Those who consumed more caffeine had a 22% lower risk of death from any cause (hazard ratio 0.78). This benefit was particularly evident for those with prediabetes, who also showed a reduced risk of cardiovascular events. However, for those already diabetic, caffeine didn't impact cardiovascular risk.
- Spanning over 142,460 person-years, the study recorded 3,166 deaths and 1,031 cardiovascular events, reinforcing that while caffeine lowers overall mortality risk, it doesn't affect heart-related outcomes in diabetics.
