CDC Report Finds High Mortality Rates Among Children Living With HIV on Treatment
1 Dec 2023 • A recent CDC report revealed troubling disparities between children living with HIV on ART and their older counterparts.
Research revealed that deaths among children under five with HIV were significantly higher, ranging from 2 to 9 times more frequent than in older age groups receiving HIV treatment. Children also faced increased risks of treatment discontinuation and struggled more with achieving viral suppression.
Prioritizing and optimizing HIV and general health services for children aged <5 years living with HIV receiving ART, including those recommended in the WHO STOP AIDS Package, might help address these disproportionately poorer outcomes.
