High Pulse Pressure Intensifies Knee Pain in Osteoarthritis Patients, Particularly Impacting Females
15 Jul 2024 • New findings from the osteoarthritis initiative study reveal that increased pulse pressure (PP) significantly impacts the severity of knee joint pain, particularly among females. The study suggests that managing pulse pressure could be beneficial in preventing or reducing knee pain in women with or at risk for osteoarthritis (OA).
-
The study included 2598 individuals aged 45-79 years. Positive correlations were observed between blood pressure stage, systolic blood pressure (SBP), pulse pressure (PP), and pain scores, with stronger associations noted in females and particularly with PP (p = 0.008–0.049).
-
In males, SBP showed a positive correlation with WOMAC score after adjusting for age and BMI (p = 0.050). However, other relationships between blood pressure parameters and pain scores did not reach statistical significance after further adjustment for additional covariates.
