Antihypertensives and Eczematous Dermatitis Risk in Older Adults: What's the Real Story?

Investigating 1.5 million older adults, a recent JAMA study found a notable 29% uptick in eczematous dermatitis diagnoses linked to antihypertensive drug use, with diuretics and calcium channel blockers posing the greatest risk, while angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and β-blockers showed the lowest.

This study urges doctors to factor in antihypertensive treatment when assessing older patients with eczematous dermatitis. Physicians are advised to consider antihypertensive treatment as part of the differential diagnoses.
