Myocardial Infarction Risk Soars 23-Fold in Women with Combined Gestational diabetes and Gestational hypertension
14 Aug 2024 • Women with a history of both gestational hypertension (GH) and gestational diabetes (GDM) face a dramatic increase in cardiovascular risk in the first five years postpartum, according to a recent study.
- Those with a history of GH alone faced a 5.46-fold higher risk of cardiovascular death within five years.
- While GDM alone did not significantly impact cardiovascular events, the combination of GH and GDM resulted in a staggering 23-fold increase in the risk of myocardial infarction.
This study highlights the urgent need for intensive cardiovascular monitoring for women with a history of both conditions, as their combined impact on heart health is alarmingly severe.
