New Study Debunks Vitamin D's Effectiveness in Preventing Asthma Attacks

6 Feb 2023 • Published on the 5th of February, 2023 Taking vitamin D supplements does not reduce the risk of asthma attacks in children or adults, according to an updated Cochrane Review. A recent study by researchers from Queen Mary University of London and the University of Edinburgh challenges the belief that vitamin D can reduce the risk of asthma attacks. Despite the findings of a 2016 Cochrane Review, which suggested a positive correlation, the updated review failed to find any significant benefits. According to Clinical Professor Adrian Martineau of Queen Mary University of London, despite previously being linked to decreased risk of severe asthma attacks, the updated study showed that vitamin D supplements have no impact on either the risk of asthma attacks or the control of asthma symptoms compared to a placebo.
