Congo Fever Claims Life of Jodhpur Woman; Health Dept Issues Guidelines
10 Oct 2024 • A 51-year-old woman from Jodhpur succumbed to Congo fever on Wednesday at a hospital in Ahmedabad.
The Rajasthan health department has issued guidelines to prevent the disease across the state. Her sample tested positive at the National Institute of Virology, Pune, while she was treated at NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad.
Congo fever [Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF)] is a viral haemorrhagic fever usually transmitted by ticks. The Animal Husbandry Department has been instructed to implement measures to control and prevent this disease.
Onset of symptoms is sudden and can include fever, muscle ache, dizziness, neck pain, backache, headache, nausea, sore eyes and photophobia.
All private and government medical institutions have been instructed that if any person shows symptoms of Congo fever, a sample from him should be taken immediately and sent for examination.
