South Asians with Type 2 Diabetes Face Higher Risk of Kidney Disease Progression than Western Europeans
29 Oct 2024 • New research from the HinDu the Hague diabetes study reveals that South Asians with type 2 diabetes have a significantly higher risk of developing microalbuminuria (HR: 1.4) and macroalbuminuria (HR: 1.2) compared to Western Europeans.
However, while South Asians progress to albuminuria more frequently, the time taken to advance from micro- to macroalbuminuria was similar across both groups (3.9 years vs. 3.4 years).
These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in South Asian populations to prevent diabetic nephropathy.
