High Vitamin D Levels Lower Headache Risk

15 Jul 2024 • High vitamin D levels were found to lower headache risk according to a study. However, no causal link was found for headache increasing vitamin D levels.

  • The study used bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal relationship between vitamin D levels and headache risk. It found a significant causal effect of high vitamin D levels reducing the risk of headache (OR=0.848; P=0.007; 95% CI=0.752-0.956) using the inverse variance weighting (IVW) method.

  • However, the reverse analysis showed no evidence of headache, causing high vitamin D levels (OR=1.001; P=0.906; 95% CI=0.994-1.006). Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of the findings.
