Women Gain More from Physical Activity in Reducing Cardiovascular Risks than Men
20 Feb 2024 • A groundbreaking study has revealed that women outshine men in reaping CV & all-cause mortality benefits from physical activity.
- The research, spanning 22 years, observed that regular leisure-time physical activity significantly reduced all-cause mortality by 24% in women & 15% in men.
- Strikingly, women achieved maximal survival benefits at 140 mins/week, while men required 300mins of moderate-to-vigorous activity.
Women compared with men derived greater gains in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality risk reduction from equivalent doses of leisure-time physical activity. These findings could enhance efforts to close the “gender gap” by motivating especially women to engage in any regular leisure-time physical activity.
