Gavi and Government of India establish new partnership to protect millions of children by 2026

7 Feb 2023 • A new three-year partnership between Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Government of India intends to provide millions of children in the nation with necessary vaccinations. Through the strategic partnership, Gavi will contribute US$250 Million to identify and vaccinate children who haven't had even one routine vaccination, strengthen the country's current health systems, and assist in the introduction of the typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to the national routine immunization schedule. 143 priority districts have been identified across 11 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, in order to successfully achieve the target of reducing the number of "zero-dose" children in the nation by 30%. Targeted interventions and methods will be employed in the districts with poor immunization coverage to ensure that children obtain the complete course of recommended vaccinations. In order to increase vaccine demand and foster a greater knowledge of the value of immunization within the target groups, civil society organisations (CSOs) and nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) will also be enlisted.
