Sleep Troubles Linked to Fertility Decline: Ovarian Reserve at Risk in Young Women
12 Sept 2024 • A new study of over 1,000 women aged 20-40 found that poor sleep quality may lead to faster ovarian aging in women of eproductive age.
Women with poor sleep (PSQI score > 5) had significantly lower AMH levels and antral follicle counts, indicating diminished ovarian reserve, along with higher FSH levels.
The odds of experiencing diminished ovarian reserve jumped by 28% for every unit increase in sleep disturbance. Women with worse sleep had a 4.43 times higher risk of fertility decline, with the greatest impact seen in younger and underweight women..
