Triptans and Ischemic Events: Elevated Risk Seen in High-Risk Groups, Yet Individual Impact Minimal

  • For patients with a high-risk cardiovascular profile, avoiding triptan treatment may be rational due to concerns about triptan-associated ischemic events.
  • In a case-crossover study including 4,29,612 individuals, triptan use was associated with a higher risk of ischemic events, but the risk for the individual user was very low. Patients with ischemic outcomes generally had a profile of high cardiovascular risk.
  • Case patients had a median age of approximately 60 years.
