Long-term Uncontrolled High Glucose Linked to Increased Cancer Risk

29 Feb 2024 • A comprehensive study involving 256,271 Koreans aged 40–79 sheds light on the intricate link between fasting blood glucose (FBG) trajectories and cancer susceptibility.

Researchers identified four distinct trajectories -

  • The high-stable group (>177 mg/dL) was tied to significantly increased risks of multiple myeloma, liver, and gastrointestinal cancers.
  • The elevated-stable (113–124 mg/dL) trajectory demonstrated heightened overall cancer and stomach cancer risks
  • The elevated-high(104–166 mg/dL) group showed associations with oral, liver, and pancreatic cancers.

These findings indicate that uncontrolled high glucose level for many years may increase the risk of cancer.
