OCT vs. Angiography: OCT-Guided PCI Shows Clear Edge in Complex Lesion Outcomes
4 Sept 2024 • The OCCUPI trial reveals that optical coherence tomography (OCT) guidance during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for complex coronary lesions significantly reduces the rate of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at one year compared to traditional angiography.
In this large, multicenter study involving 1,604 patients, those in the OCT-guided group experienced a 38% lower incidence of events like cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and stent thrombosis at one year (5% vs. 7%; HR 0.62; p=0.023).
These results underscore OCT's potential as a superior imaging technique for guiding PCI in complex coronary cases.
