How High is the 10-Year Cardiovascular Disease Risk for India's Older Adults? New Insights from a National Study
5 Aug 2024 • In a nationwide study assessing cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk among older adults in India aged 40-69, researchers used WHO’s non-laboratory risk chart to categorize individuals into very low-to-low, moderate, and high-to-very high risk groups.
- Among 4,480 participants, found that 84.9% had a very low to low 10-year CVD risk, 14.4% were at moderate risk, and just 0.7% faced high to very high risk.
- Unemployment dramatically increased CVD risk by over five times (AOR: 5.12), and raised blood glucose nearly doubled the risk (AOR: 1.81).
- This non-laboratory approach was particularly useful in resource-limited settings for effective CVD risk assessment and management.
