Globesity Alert: More Than Half of Humanity Set to Tip the Scales by 2035!

7 Mar 2023 • A new report by the World Obesity Federation has issued a stark warning about the growing epidemic of obesity. According to the research, 38% of the global population, or 2.6 billion people, are already overweight or obese. The study predicts that, unless decisive action is taken, more than half of the world’s population will be overweight or obese by 2035. This would mean over 4 billion people affected worldwide. The report states that governments must take action by implementing tactics such as taxes and limits on the promotion of unhealthy foods. Without such measures, the number of people who are clinically obese will increase from one in seven to one in four by 2035. The report also shows that obesity among children and young people is set to increase at an even faster rate than among adults. By 2035, it is expected to double from current rates. The World Obesity Federation is calling for “ambitious and coordinated action” to tackle the growing health and economic crisis that obesity represents. The group believes that governments and policymakers around the world must do everything in their power to avoid passing on health, social, and economic costs to future generations.
