Calcium and Hemoglobin Levels: Key to Healthy Birth Outcomes

25 Feb 2025 • A recent study conducted with pregnant women and their newborns highlights the significant impact of maternal calcium and hemoglobin levels on newborn size in third-trimester pregnant women.

The study found a positive correlation between maternal calcium and hemoglobin levels and newborn length. Specifically, lower calcium and hemoglobin levels were associated with lower birth weights. With mean calcium levels of 2.19 mmol/L and hemoglobin at 11.55 g/dL.

This shows the importance of monitoring and addressing deficiencies in calcium and iron during pregnancy to improve fetal growth outcomes.
