2-Year-Old Bird Flu Patient in Australia Had Returned From India - WHO Confirms
10 Jun 2024 • The World Health Organization has confirmed a case of bird flu in a 2.5-year-old child in Australia who returned from Kolkata, India.
Genetic sequencing studies have revealed the virus to be of the H5N1 subtype. This H5N1 subtype is part of the variant causing infections in southeast Asia.
After reaching Australia, the child experienced irritability, fever, appetite loss, coughing, and vomiting, for which she was hospitalized and recovered after 2.5 weeks.
