Clinically Diagnosed Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy Carries High Mortality and Extreme Stroke Risk
2 May 2025 • A population-based study of over 1.9 million participants reveals that clinically diagnosed cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) carries a strikingly elevated risk of death and stroke.
Key Findings:
- CAA was linked to nearly a fivefold higher risk of mortality (HR: 4.9).
- Among patients without prior stroke, CAA was associated with a markedly increased risk of any stroke (HR: 8.0), ischemic stroke (HR: 4.6), intracerebral hemorrhage (HR: 26.9), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (HR: 21.6).
These findings highlight the urgent need for vigilant stroke prevention strategies in patients with CAA.
