FDA Gives Nod to First Medication for Severe Frostbite Treatment
16 Feb 2024 • The U.S. FDA has approved iloprost injection, a vasodilator, to treat severe frostbite in adults and reduce the risk of finger or toe amputation.
Primary support for the approval was derived from data in an open-label randomized trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2011.
The most common side effects include headache, flushing, palpitations, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, & hypotension.
