Pregnancy Influenza Vaccination Effectively Shields Infants Under 6 Months
1 Dec 2023 • Recent research has revealed the significant effectiveness of maternal influenza vaccination in safeguarding infants under 6 months from laboratory-confirmed seasonal influenza.
The study, which included 23,806 infants, reported a remarkable 64% vaccine effectiveness against infant influenza infections & 67% VE against influenza hospitalization. This protection remained consistent across different trimesters of vaccination, infant age groups (0-<2 months and 2-<6 months), and gestational ages at birth.
This compelling evidence advocates for prioritizing maternal vaccination strategies to enhance infant immunity against influenza during their crucial early months of life.
