Life-Saving Heart Transplant for One-Year-Old Marks a Medical Milestone in India!
26 Nov 2024 • Narayana Health has successfully performed India's youngest heart transplant on a one-year-old infant suffering from end-stage heart failure due to Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM).
The baby, whose condition deteriorated rapidly from 10 months of age, received a life-saving heart transplant after a compatible donor heart from a 2.5-year-old child became available.
The surgery, led by a skilled team of specialists, was followed by a two-month recovery period, with the infant showing significant progress, including increased activity and healthy weight gain.
Dr. Shashiraj, a key figure in the procedure, emphasized the importance of organ donation and the power of expert teamwork in saving lives. Narayana Health's founder, expressed pride in the achievement, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to high-quality healthcare and the need for more organ donors in India.
The case also underscores the complexities of heart failure in children and the critical role of timely intervention and post-operative care.
