Vitamin C's Role in Osteoporosis: An Overlooked Factor?
5 Aug 2024 • New research shows that combined deficiencies in vitamins C and D are associated with significantly lower bone mineral density and a higher risk of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women.
While vitamin D deficiency alone did not significantly affect lumbar BMD compared to controls, those with both vitamin C and D deficiencies had notably lower lumbar BMD and higher osteoporosis risk. No significant link to osteoporotic vertebral fractures was observed.
This suggests a synergistic effect of these deficiencies, underscoring the need for routine measurement of vitamins C and D in clinical practice to better manage bone health.
