Diabetes Influences Testosterone Levels More Than Obesity
29 Jun 2024 • According to a latest study, diabetes strongly affects testosterone levels, more than obesity. The study found lower sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and free testosterone (cFT) in diabetics, linking hypogonadism to insulin resistance and poor glycemic control.
-
The study included 160 adult males divided into four equal groups based on their body composition and glycemic profiles.
-
Results showed a significant negative correlation between serum testosterone and free testosterone with body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). Testosterone levels were lower in the diabetic groups compared to the non-diabetic groups. Additionally, insulin resistance and poor glycemic control were found to be correlated with hypogonadism.
