Water Births Deemed Safe in Latest Study, No Increased Risk of Maternal and Neonatal Complications

  • Researchers examined the safety of water birth compared to land-based delivery.
  • When conducted in facilities with proper precautions, water birth did not increase the risk of maternal infection, while reducing the odds of PPH.
  • Neonates delivered submerged in water showed increased odds of cord avulsion but decreased odds of low Apgar scores, neonatal infection, aspiration requiring resuscitation, and NICU admission.
