High Mortality Risk in SOT Recipients with CAP
6 Jun 2024 • The risk of 1-year mortality is high in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
- SOT recipients with CAP were found to be younger, more commonly male, and have more co-morbidities than non-transplant (NT) recipients.
- A study compared the clinical characteristics and outcomes of pneumonia in SOT recipients to non-transplant (NT) recipients.
- Adjusted analysis showed SOT recipients had higher odds of mortality in the hospital at 30 days and at 1 year compared to NT recipients. 1-year mortality had the highest increase for SOT recipients, with 1.41 times higher odds.
Clinicians should be aware of the long-term mortality risk and provide continued follow-up care for SOT recipients.
