Decline in COVID-19 in Children

20 Jan 2023 • According to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, visits to emergency rooms and hospitalisations for COVID-19 in children appear to be following the downward trend established by weekly cases since early December. Since mid-November 2022, there had been an increase in the number of ED visits involving children who had been diagnosed with COVID-19, but as of early January 2023, this has changed. According to the CDC, new cases followed a distinct trajectory that saw the weekly total decline through November before declining once more. Although there is a longer reporting lag for hospitalisation data compared to ED visits, the trend for new hospital admissions of children with confirmed COVID showed a similar climb through December, and the most recent data for the very beginning of January suggest an even faster drop.
