PCOS Impacts Cognitive Function in Midlife

1 Feb 2024 • A cohort study from the CARDIA project has suggested a connection between PCOS and lower cognitive test scores in middle age.

The findings indicated that individuals with PCOS demonstrated reduced cognitive performance in tests evaluating attention, verbal learning, memory, and executive function during midlife. Furthermore, a subset of participants with PCOS also exhibited lower white matter integrity.

These findings highlight a potential association between PCOS and adverse cognitive outcomes at midlife, urging further research to explore mechanistic pathways and potential modifiable factors.
