8 Dec 2023 • The Indian Health Ministry has refuted media reports suggesting a connection between bacterial cases at AIIMS Delhi and the recent increase in pneumonia cases in China, terming them as false and misleading.

The Ministry clarified that the seven detected cases are unrelated to the recent surge, and no instances of Mycoplasma pneumonia were found in the 611 samples tested at AIIMS Delhi as part of the ICMR's respiratory pathogen surveillance since January this year.

This was part of the multiple respiratory pathogen surveillance by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which included mainly severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) comprising about 95% of these cases.
