Statin Therapy Mitigates Tuberculosis Risk in Bronchiectasis Patients: New Findings
23 Feb 2024 • Utilizing a nationwide database, a recent study has revealed that bronchiectasis patients on statin treatment experienced a lower risk of TB incidence compared to non-statin users, especially when administered at higher doses.
Even after adjusting for age, sex and comorbidities, the findings suggested that statins play a crucial role in lowering TB risk by modulating airway inflammation in bronchiectasis patients.
These findings suggest a potential role for statins in TB prevention among bronchiectasis patients, warranting further investigation and possible consideration in clinical guidelines and healthcare policies.
