Colchicine's Limited Impact in Post-Ablation AF: Chest Pain Relief but No Recurrence Prevention
23 Dec 2023 • A 10-day course of colchicine (0.6 mg twice daily) following catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) failed to significantly reduce atrial arrhythmia recurrence at both the 2-week and 3-month marks post-ablation.
- Colchicine did alleviate postablation chest pain consistent with pericarditis but came with an increased incidence of diarrhea.
- Colchicine did not demonstrate a significant impact on cardioversion or repeat ablation.
- During a median follow-up of 1.3 years, colchicine did not reduce a composite of emergency department visit or cardiovascular hospitalization.
