Killer Cold Wave in North India!!
18 Jan 2023 • "We are getting approximately 10-15% more patients of heart attacks, brain strokes, and high blood pressure especially during the early hours because of the cold waves for 12 days," says Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director, Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital. "The most affected age group is between 50-70 yr old." The minimum temperature in Delhi has reportedly dropped to as low as 1.9 degrees Celsius, with a thick blanket of fog enveloping the national capital, making it the city's third worst cold wave in the last 23 years. During the winter, emergency departments at private and government hospitals in Delhi saw an increase in the number of patients suffering from heart attacks, strokes, and high blood pressure. In the Delhi-NCR region, some private hospitals also saw an increase in stroke patients. "We've seen a 9% increase in the number of stroke patients during the winter," said Dr Rahul Gupta, Director - Neurosurgery & Neuro-Intervention, Fortis Hospital, Noida.
