Skip the Scoop: New ICMR Guidelines Advocate Against Protein Supplement Use
10 May 2024 • In response to recent findings indicating inaccuracies in a majority of popular protein supplements in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has unveiled updated Dietary Guidelines for Indians (DGIs).
The Hyderabad-based National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), which is part of the Indian Council of Medical Research, has called for avoiding protein supplements for building body mass.
ICMR's Dietary Guidelines for Indians target health issues stemming from poor dietary habits, emphasizing specific food choices, nutrient intake, and regular exercise for improved well-being.
The guidelines also advocate for reducing salt intake, minimizing sugar and processed foods, and advocating for informed food choices by reading labels.
