High-Impact Exercise Helps Lower Osteoporosis Risk, Especially in Men
16 Jul 2024 • New findings suggest that engaging in high-impact exercises may lower the risk of osteoporosis, especially in men aged 30 to 70.
-
A study with over 5000 individuals without osteoporosis and 1,770 individuals with the condition observed that high-impact exercise significantly reduces the likelihood of developing osteoporosis compared to being sedentary (OR = 0.573).
-
Conversely, low-impact exercises did not show a significant overall association with osteoporosis risk (OR = 1.160).
-
When stratified by sex, high-impact exercise was protective in men (OR = 0.391) but showed no significant effect in women (OR = 0.671).
