High BP and Cholesterol Levels in Early to Middle Life Tied to Lifelong Coronary Heart Disease Risk
21 Dec 2023 • Exposure to elevated LDL-C/SBP early in life (age ≤55 years) was linked to a higher risk of CHD, independent of later-life levels.
Genetically predicted SBP and LDL-C increase the risk of CHD independent of age
A consistent association was observed between exposure to higher LDL-C and SBP in early to middle life, leading to increased odds of incident CHD in individuals aged ≤55 years, ≤60 years, and ≤65 years.
These findings support the importance of lifelong risk factor control in young individuals, whose risk of CHD accumulates throughout life.
