Pre-stroke Metformin Use Improves Outcomes in Diabetic Stroke Patients

12 Apr 2024 • A recent study observed that type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who used metformin prior to an acute ischemic stroke exhibited a significantly higher rate of favorable functional outcomes compared to non-metformin users.

  • Functional independence rate at discharge was higher in metformin users.
  • Metformin group showed lower 90-day mortality rate.
  • No significant difference was found in sICH between the two groups.
