Rising Colorectal Cancer Rates in Younger Adults: What’s Happening Globally and in India?
12 Dec 2024 • A global analysis of colorectal cancer incidence trends has reported a concerning rise in early-onset cases (aged <50 years) in 27 of 50 countries.
- While the trend is stabilizing or declining in older adults (50-74 years) in many of these countries, early-onset cases continue to grow faster, particularly in men.
- The incidence rate of early-onset colorectal cancer was highest in Australia, the USA, New Zealand, the USA and South Korea.
- The highest incidence rates among older adults were found in the Netherlands and Denmark.
- In contrast, India remains in a low-incidence zone for both younger and older adults, highlighting the potential for early prevention strategies.
The findings underscore the need for intensified efforts to identify factors driving these trends and increase awareness to help facilitate early detection.
