Thrombocytopenia is a common hematological finding with variable clinical expression. It is defined as a platelet count below the 2.5th lower percentile of the normal platelet count distribution. Because platelets play an essential role in preserving vessel wall integrity, thrombocytopenia is associated with a defect of primary hemostasis. A correct identification of the causes of thrombocytopenia is crucial for the appropriate management of these patients. In this session, renowned Hematologist, Dr. Arijit Bishnu will present a systematic evaluation of adults with thrombocytopenia and will discuss the management strategies for these patients.
